Overview
Snapfind is an Android app for on-device semantic photo search. It lets you find photos in your device's library by typing a natural-language description (for example, "blue dress on a beach" or "a whiteboard").
Private by Design
Snapfind is built to be private by design. All processing happens locally on your device. Snapfind does not upload, transmit, or share your photos, search queries, tags, or any other personal data with us or any third party. The app does not require or request internet access to function.
This policy explains what data Snapfind accesses, how it is used, where it is stored, and the choices available to you.
Data We Collect
We collect no data.
Snapfind does not send any information to StakSoft or to any external server, analytics provider, or advertising network.
Specifically, Snapfind does not collect, transmit, or share:
- Photos or images
- Search queries
- Tags you create
- Folder or file metadata
- Location data (including EXIF GPS data stored in your photos)
- Device identifiers
- Usage or analytics data
- Crash logs
- Contacts, microphone, or camera input
- Any personally identifiable information
There are no user accounts, no sign-in, and no cloud backup.
Data Accessed On Your Device
To provide photo search, Snapfind accesses the following locally on your device only. This information never leaves your device.
Photos and images
With your permission, Snapfind reads images in your photo library so it can generate searchable representations of them. You can grant full library access or select only specific photos using the Android Photo Picker.
On-device image analysis
Snapfind uses an on-device machine-learning model (a CLIP-class model running via ONNX Runtime) to create a mathematical representation (an "embedding") of each photo so it can be matched against your search text. This analysis runs entirely on your device. No image or embedding is sent anywhere.
Tags and metadata
Tags you add, folder structure information, and duplicate-detection signatures are stored locally so your photos remain searchable.
EXIF / location data in photos
If your photos contain embedded GPS or other EXIF metadata, that data stays on your device and is never transmitted.
All of the above is stored only in Snapfind's local app storage on your device.
Permissions We Request
Snapfind requests only the permissions required for on-device photo search:
| Permission | Why it's needed |
|---|---|
| READ_MEDIA_IMAGES | To read images in your library so they can be searched. |
| READ_MEDIA_VISUAL_USER_SELECTED | To support limited access where you choose specific photos via the Photo Picker. |
| FOREGROUND_SERVICE / FOREGROUND_SERVICE_DATA_SYNC | To index your photos in the background reliably. |
| POST_NOTIFICATIONS | To show indexing progress notifications. |
| WAKE_LOCK | To allow background indexing to complete. |
| RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED | To resume background indexing after a device restart. |
| ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE | A normal-level permission added by the background-task library. It only reads connectivity status and cannot transmit any data. |
Snapfind does NOT request the INTERNET permission. The app is incapable of making network connections or transmitting data off your device.
We do not request location, contacts, camera, or microphone permissions.
How Your Data Is Stored and Protected
- All data (photos accessed, embeddings, tags, folder metadata, duplicate signatures) is stored locally in Snapfind's private app storage on your device.
- Because nothing is transmitted, there is no server-side data to secure or breach.
- Your device's own security (lock screen, encryption) protects this data.
Data Sharing
We do not share, sell, rent, or disclose any data to third parties. Because Snapfind collects no data and has no network access, there is nothing to share.
Snapfind contains no third-party advertising SDKs, no analytics SDKs, and no tracking technologies.
Data Retention and Deletion
Your data stays on your device for as long as Snapfind is installed. You are in full control:
- Clear app data: Go to Android Settings → Apps → Snapfind → Storage → Clear data to remove all embeddings, tags, and metadata Snapfind created.
- Uninstall: Removing Snapfind deletes all data the app stored on your device.
- Revoke access: You can revoke photo permissions at any time in Settings → Apps → Snapfind → Permissions.
Your original photos are never modified or deleted by Snapfind.
Children's Privacy
Snapfind is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children. Because the app collects no data at all, no personal information from children is gathered.
Your Rights
Because Snapfind stores all data locally and collects nothing, you retain complete control over your information. You can view, manage, or delete it directly on your device at any time using the steps above. There is no data held by us that would require a separate access, correction, or deletion request.
Depending on your region (for example, under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have additional rights. Since we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to provide, correct, or erase on our side.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be communicated through the app listing or within the app where appropriate. Continued use of Snapfind after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
